About
Hi, Laura here. A Yorkshire-based Registered Nutritional Therapist specialising in fertility, IVF and pregnancy.
My goal is to first help you discover & understand the root-cause of your health issue then support you in overcoming this using bespoke, evidence-based nutrition & lifestyle strategies.
Think of me as your fertility detective, using the latest research & functional tests to help you understand what imbalances are affecting your fertility & what you can do about it.
I offer a range of services including one-off consultations, functional tests & in-depth 3 month programmes.
who am i?
I’m Laura. Girl mum. Vespa rider. Fertility fan girl.
I know, both from my own experience and conducting my own MSc research that finding accurate, research-based, up to date and trustworthy pre and antenatal information can be bloody hard work, especially when you’re struggling and willing to try anything.
Like a lot of nutritionists, this isn’t my first career. The majority of my work has been in mental health (which I loved) but then bam, at 23 I developed Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease where your hair falls out in patches. That’s a story for another day but funnily enough, being told by my GP that “there’s no cure for autoimmune diseases, just try and reduce your stress” wasn’t good enough. So after crying for a bit (a lot) over losing my hair, I put my big girl pants on, took control and learnt everything I could about the root-cause of autoimmune disease. And what do you know, there was actually loads I could do to support my gut and immune health. So I did. And it worked. Cut to 4 years of study, 3 pregnancies, 2 babies and 1 move to York later and Laura Naylor Nutrition was finally in the works.
Like so many women I suffered a ‘missed miscarriage’ during my first pregnancy. Despite knowing how common miscarriage is, it was still a big shock. I felt sad, angry, silly for getting excited and of course guilty. God, writing that down now makes me want to just scoop 2019 Laura up and give her a big hug. It was right there and then though that I knew exactly what my passion was for my thesis and my future clinic: supporting clients through the fog of fertility to give them the best shot possible at having the family they deserve.
So that’s me. And if you’re looking for fertility support from someone who’s learned it and lived it, I’m here.
It would be easy to describe my clients in terms of their symptoms or diagnoses. But that feels wrong. That’s not who they are, that’s their medical history.
My clients are just like you. Intelligent, confident women and couples who are emotionally drained from the rollercoaster of trying to conceive. They’re sick of Googling symptoms, overwhelmed by conflicting advice and often, quietly grieving the life they thought they’d have by now.
Some clients are just at the start of their journey but know deep down something’s not quite right. Others have undergone extensive blood tests and scans, but still don’t have any real answers (hint, ‘unexplained infertility’ is not a diagnosis).
Fertility support shouldn’t just be about test results. It’s vital that you also feel supported with your emotional well-being, reconnected with your body, have a clear, confident path forward and finally feel back in control.
My clients leave clinic feeling truly heard, empowered and like a weight has finally been lifted. They know they’re doing absolutely everything they can to restore their reproductive health, giving themselves the best possible chance at having the family they deserve.
They welcome me onto their team at the most vulnerable time in their lives and trust that I’ve got their back. They’re committed to their plans and know I’m right there if they need me.
This isn’t just state of the art fertility testing and personalised strategies. This is us going all in.
So if that sounds like you and the sort of support you’re looking for, send me a message and let’s talk.
who are my clients?
what is nutritional therapy?
Nutritional therapy involves using nutrition and lifestyle modifications to improve a person's health and wellbeing. It follows what is known as the functional medicine model where the emphasis is first on understanding the root-cause of the health issue. Reviewing this alongside the most up to date, high quality research enables bespoke diet and lifestyle recommendations to be made with a view to restoring optimal health.
What IS A nutritional therapist?
Nutritional Therapists aim to identify and address the biochemical and nutritional imbalances or deficiencies that might contribute to a client’s health issue. As we’re all so wonderfully different, with unique health histories, genes, lifestyles & habits, it makes sense that our nutritional needs are also different. Taking a personalised approach is therefore essential in supporting clients on their path to optimal fertility.
My approach
I specialise in fertility, IVF and pregnancy, guiding and empowering women with the knowledge and tools they need to optimise their reproductive health, nurture a thriving pregnancy and enhance their postpartum experience. My approach is thorough and entirely client-led, following the below process to create bespoke, evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle plans:
I assess clients’ medical history, lifestyle factors, symptoms, current dietary habits & specific health goals.
I use saliva, urine and/or blood analysis if I feel it will provide a deeper insight into a client’s health issue. Testing is always optional, never compulsory.
I consider factors such as age, gender, genes and environmental influences that can affect a client's nutritional needs.
I review all this information alongside the latest, high quality nutrition research, enabling me to develop bespoke, evidence-based nutrition, supplement and lifestyle plans for my clients. These include tailor-made dietary recommendations, lifestyle modifications & potentially, the use of nutritional supplements.
qualifications
Following a BSc in Psychology I completed a PGDip and an MSc in Nutrition Science and Practice at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York. NCA is regarded as one of the most reputable institutions in the UK for nutrition education & clinical training; “gaining a Master's qualification is THE gold standard of nutritional therapy education (anywhere in the world)” NCA, 2023.
My thesis explored which sources of antenatal nutrition information women deemed most trustworthy, with the results really highlighting the need for up to date, bespoke and most importantly, evidence-based fertility, pregnancy and postpartum nutrition information. And so, Laura Naylor Nutrition was born.
I am a member of BANT, the leading professional body for Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. Its members have met strict criteria & are trained to provide a standard of excellence in science-based nutrition & lifestyle medicine.
I am fully insured & am regulated & governed by the CNHC, the independent UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners.
